Postgraduate Programs

To be eligible for admission to the Postgraduate Qualifying Program (PQP), you must have met the academic admission requirements for entry to the Griffith postgraduate degree into which you wish to articulate. In most cases, you will be required to have completed a bachelor's degree from a recognised university (or another tertiary education institution of equivalent standing) with a minimum GPA of 4.0 (using a 7.0 scale). However some programs may require a higher GPA. The qualifying degree program must meet NOOSR or NARIC equivalencies.

Credit transfer

You may be eligible for credit transfer for prior studies towards the Griffith University Master degree in accordance with the university's credit transfer policy. At the time of accepting an offer of a place in the Griffith University Master degree, you may apply to Griffith International for a pre-assessment of credit entitlement towards the Griffith University Master degree program.

Special requirements

Students wishing to undertake a Master of Commerce are not eligible to choose a major within the Master (for example, Professional Accounting, Applied Finance, Financial Planning) that is the same as that completed as part of their undergraduate program.

Work experience requirements

Entry into some Master degree programs requires you to have undertaken relevant work experience. In these instances, evidence of relevant work experience must be presented with your application for the Postgraduate Qualifying Program.

Subject Pre-requisites

Top

To be eligible for your program of study, you must have achieved the pre-requisite study at a level comparable to Australian Year 12 or in recognised post-secondary studies. Some programs also list subjects as recommended study. If you've completed these subjects at a level comparable to Australian Year 12 it may help you understand the material in your course.

What is a 'Subject Pre-requisite'?

A subject prerequisite is part of the minimum entry requirements for a program. Subject pre-requisites are expressed as a passing grade at a level comparable to Australian Year 12. For example 'Maths B' indicates that the Queensland Studies Authority subject 'Maths B' (or equivalent) must have been studied in senior high school and an overall passing grade or better obtained.

What is 'Recommended Study'?

Although the stated subjects are not compulsory, it is strongly recommended that the applicant have knowledge of these subjects. A full list of equivalencies may be found on our Admissions Policy at http://policy.qibt.qld.edu.au/. Queensland Studies Authority subject syllabuses can be downloaded from their website at www.qsa.qld.edu.au/575.html.

Unlike prerequisite subjects, if you do not have the Assumed Knowledge and Recommended Study you will not be prevented from receiving an offer into the Diploma program. However, you should be aware that if you do not have the Assumed Knowledge and Recommended Study you may experience difficulty with some aspects of the program. You are therefore recommended to complete some Bridging Subjects to acquire this knowledge.

Q: I don't have the Assumed Knowledge for my program

A: If you don't have the Assumed Knowledge for your Diploma program we recommend you enrol in our free Bridging Subjects in addition to your Diploma program. Click here for more information.

Q: How much Assumed Knowledge do I need?

A: We recommend that you have knowledge equivalent to four semesters at high school (Year 11 & Year 12) with a passing grade or better.

Q: I didn't complete Year 12 in Queensland

A: Check the Assumed Knowledge equivalencies table on our website here.

Bridging Subjects for Diploma Programs

Top

Bridging Subjects are offered to QIBT Diploma students absolutely free... and you can still complete your Diploma in just one year!

What are Bridging Subjects?

Bridging Subjects are studied in addition to your Diploma Program subjects and equip you with the foundational knowledge required to better succeed in your study program.

When should Diploma students study additional Bridging Subjects?

Students who have not previously gained the Assumed Knowledge or undertaken the Recommended Study for their Diploma Program should study additional Bridging Subjects, as recommended for their particular Diploma program. Unlike prerequisite subjects, if you do not have the Assumed Knowledge or Recommended Study you will not be prevented from receiving an offer into the course. However, you should be aware that if you do not have the Assumed Knowledge or Recommended Study you may experience difficulty with some aspects of the course. QIBT therefore recommends undertaking Bridging Subjects to acquire this knowledge and provides these free of charge.

Which Bridging Subjects should I study and how much do they cost?

QIBT offers a range of Bridging Subjects designed to satisfy the Assumed Knowledge and Recommended Study requirements for each Diploma Program. Students may elect to enrol in one FREE Bridging Subject per program, to meet the 'Assumed Knowledge' requirements of the Diploma. For programs which list multiple 'Assumed Knowledge' requirements, e.g. 'English and one of Biological Science, Chemistry, Physics or Maths B'; students may elect to enrol in two free Bridging Subjects (e.g. English + Maths B; or English + Chemistry).

Please note: Bridging subjects are subject to change without notice.

Can I still complete my Diploma program in 12 months?

Yes, you can. You may complete the Bridging Subject/s at the same time as enrolling in some subjects from your Diploma. We recommend that you take a reduced study-load in your first semester (i.e. 3 subjects or less) and schedule your study across all three semesters in the calendar year. This will increase your chances of success. The figure below shows how it is possible for you to complete your Diploma program within a twelve month period and articulate to the 2nd year of the relevant Griffith University degree program in 2014.

*Students must successfully complete all 8 subjects in the Diploma and meet relevant entry criteria to articulate to the Griffith University bachelor degree.

What should I do now?
