Concerned about your OP/Rank? Think you might miss out on a place at University?
Queensland Institute of Business and Technology (QIBT) offers alternative entry pathways to University.
QIBT can help you upgrade your OP by completing an 8 - 12 month Diploma in the following programs:
If you're ready to apply to study at QIBT, there are a few things you should consider:
QIBT offers a three semester Diploma program which enables students to complete the first year of the relevant Griffith University degree program in just 8 months. All courses in the Diploma are equivalent to the first year of the respective Degree program at Griffith University.
If you have not met the entry requirements for direct entry to university by completing a QIBT Diploma program you will be able to enter the second year of the GU degree the following year with full credit for one year. Entry to the second year is subject to achieving a Grade Point Average of at least 3.75 (except for Graphic Design). There is no need to apply through QTAC for entry to the second year at Griffith University (except for students wishing to articulate to the Bachelor of Design). However if you wish to study at another university you will have to apply through the relevant Tertiary Admissions Centre in that State or Territory.
Please note: To be eligible for entry to a QIBT Diploma you will need to have completed Year 12 or equivalent.
Once you study beyond Year 12, your actual Overall Position does not change. Instead, you receive a new, additional 'Admissions Rank'. This rank is based on the Grade Point Average (GPA) you have achieved over the time you have been studying. Applicants who have completed one year of full-time QIBT study (i.e completed their Diploma program) and are articulating to a Bachelor degree at Griffith University are allocated a rank from schedule T4001. This means you are allocated the same rank as someone who has been studying a Bachelor's Degree at University for one year.
One year of successful Diploma study at QIBT can make a huge difference to your Admissions rank. You may enter QIBT with an OP 18 or rank 60 but after only 12 months of study you can Graduate with your Diploma AND a rank of 93 (Equivalent to an OP 5).
On successful completion of the Diploma, QIBT students are guaranteed entry to the related Griffith University program provided that your GPA (Grade Point Average) is at least 3.75 or above. You will not be required to apply through QTAC but will be seamlessly transferred to the Griffith degree through a process facilitated by QIBT and the University.
Upon successful completion of the Diploma, QIBT students are guaranteed entry to the related Griffith University program provided that: Your GPA (Grade Point Average) is at least 4.
Students must apply for admission via the Queensland Tertiary Admissions Centre (QTAC) and meet the required GPA.
Please note: Students will be granted admission to other programs of the University provided that they meet the entry requirements and prerequisites.
Please note: To be eligible for entry to a QIBT Diploma you will need to have completed Year 12 or equivalent (Admission requirements).
Quotas restrictions apply for a place in some degree programs. Selection for admission in the Bachelor of Nursing, Bachelor of Exercise Science (Pre-Physiotherapy), Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science and Bachelor of Pharmaceutical Science is competitive as the number of applicants generally exceeds the places available. Students are required to at least meet a minimum GPA requirement of 3.75, and ensure their rank is greater than or equal to the current QTAC cut-off for that program, to be eligible for consideration by the University for a place in the degree. If applications for the degree exceed the quota, places will be awarded on the basis of the highest GPA and highest average mark across completed Diploma courses.
Students that are not successful in being offered a position in their chosen Bachelor program may be eligible for entry to another degree in a similar discipline, subject to achieving minimum GPA and rank requirements. Alternatively students can apply for a place in their preferred degree via QTAC, and be considered along with other external applicants.
Students must apply for admission via the Queensland Tertiary Admissions Centre (QTAC) and meet the required GPA. Students must finish their Diploma of Graphic Design in Semester 2 (October) in order to be considered for the Bachelor of Design (second year entry) in the major QTAC offer round in January. Please note that the Bachelor of Design does not have a mid-year (July) intake.
