If you do not meet the minimum English language requirement for your program, you may be eligible for the Mixed English and Academic Program (MEAP) or you may choose to apply for an intensive English language course at Griffith English Language Institute to improve your English language proficiency.

Griffith English Language Institute (GELI)

GELI provides international students preparing to enter QIBT and Griffith University with an opportunity to improve their English language skills through intensive English language programs (ELICOS). GELI programs use Independent Learning Centres, that are equipped with state of the art CD and internet-based learning resources. English language programs are offered throughout the year from January to December. Classes include students from many countries, and are taught by professional teachers who take a personal interest in you and your particular learning needs.

Students may study one of the following programs:

1. General English (GE)
   GE is available to students with all levels of English. This program emphasises the development of communication skills in reading, writing, listening and speaking. GE programs are offered every five weeks in Brisbane and on the Gold Coast.
2. English for Academic Purposes (EAP)
   This program is for students with a high level of English proficiency who are planning to enter academic programs at QIBT and Griffith University. EAP focuses on developing reading, writing, listening, speaking and study skills in an academic context. GELI's EAP program is offered in five week modules throughout the year.
3. Mixed English and Academic Program (MEAP)
   The MEAP has been designed specifically for students whose English language proficiency is below what is needed to undertake a full academic load. The program is delivered by GELI on the Mount Gravatt and Gold Coast campuses.

How long will you need to study English?

If you want to study at QIBT, you must meet the English and academic entry requirements of your chosen program. As a guide, 10 weeks of intensive English may improve a student's score by approximately half an overall IELTS band.

Please note: QIBT and GELI do not accept ISLPR test results from SBIT Southbank for entry into any program, including MEAP. We only accept test results from tests taken at the Eight Mile Plains office of ISLPR.
