Program structure - MEAP Print E-mail

You will undertake 5 weeks of General English to develop general language skills including reading, writing, listening, speaking and grammar. The program will assist you to understand Australian teaching and assessment styles and help you get to know what to expect from the teacher and class assessment.

This is followed by 10 weeks of English for Academic Purposes which will focus on developing the following:

  • Reading skills: read, take notes and recognise various text types
  • Writing skills: structure an essay, write a fully referenced academic assignment
  • Listening skills will be developed both in the classroom and by students attending lectures
  • Speaking skills will be developed leading to an academic presentation
  • Study skills: learn about time management, learning styles, organisation of notes and using reference materials

The MEAP program also requires you to study one - 4 hour academic subject, which is taught by QIBT lecturers. Succesful completion of the academic course is credited to your study in the Diploma or Foundation program.
