If you want to experience living with a local Brisbane or Gold Coast family or need temporary accommodation until you find a suitable place to stay, home stay is a good option for you.

Homestay gives students the opportunity to settle in quickly with the help of their host families and is ideal for students who are interested in having a home away from home experience with people helping them find their way around the city, taking them to interesting places, and encouraging them to practise their English speaking skills.

Homestay also enables students to gain an insight into Australian life and offers a unique opportunity to experience Australian culture first hand by participating in the daily routine of the host family's life.

Host families take an active interest in their students and assist them to assimilate into their new environment and studies. Students can also use Homestay as a time to look for suitable permanent accommodation after they arrive without having to worry about food and lodging in their first few weeks of their stay in Australia.

To apply for homestay, you should lodge an application form at least 2 weeks prior to your arrival. Application form for homestay can be found here: Homestay Application Form

Off-campus accommodation

QIBT recommends a number of Off Campus Accommodation options for students who are over 18. Most of these have excellent facilities for students that are privately managed and are located close to campus or near convenient public transport. Facilities offered at most premises are three to six bedroom apartments with lounge, dining, kitchen and laundry facilities. All units are fully furnished with private bedroom and private/shared bathroom. Most complexes have a gym, swimming pool, BBQ area, internet and telephone access, vehicle parking, air-conditioning, and on-site managers.

Weekly room rates vary and depend on the facilities offered. Most will require a four week bond payable on arrival, depending on length of stay and availability. Minimum stay: one semester or six months. Students are required to pay rental bond and other charges directly to the Onsite Manager and sign a rental lease upon arrival.

Temporary accommodation

If you plan to find your own share accommodation off-campus you may wish to arrange for temporary accommodation prior to your arrival. Temporary accommodation is normally in the form of Homestay or a motel or hotel which you pay for on arrival. The minimum stay in Homestay is 4 weeks. Homestay allows you to settle in quickly with the help of your host family and you can take time to look for suitable permanent accommodation whilst living in Homestay. Most motels or hotels will require a deposit to secure the room (credit card details are normally requested by the motel/hotel).
